Dominick Cruz looks to avenge his only loss and protect his belt from Urijah Faber. Co main event: Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben. Watch UFC 132: Cruz vs Faber Live on Pay-Per-View or www.UFC.tv on Saturday, July 2ndat 6/9pm PT/ET.
32 year old Urijah “The California Kid” Faber is a former WEC Featherweight Championship title holder. His sherdog fight record is 25 – 4 – 0.
25 year old Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz is the current UFC Bantamweight Championship title holder. His sherdog fight record is 17 – 1 – 0.
Penny Buffington executive producer of the MMA2DAY Show participated in the UFC Media Conference held 6/21/2011. Conference participants were Urijah Faber, Dominick Cruz, Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben.
Urijah defeated Dominick via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at WEC 26 – Las Vegas 3/24/2007. Since the two former WEC fighters have a long
standing dislike of each other both Urijah and Dominick spoke about ‘bad blood’ and whether or not, as a fighter, it makes it harder or easier to prepare for your opponent.
Faber began by saying, “I think it makes it easier. I have never been an emotional fighter.” Cruz, “For me I do a pretty good job of not making it emotional in my brain. Once I get in a fight, I fight just as hard with somebody I don’t like, as with somebody that I have no problem with. Once
I get in there it is not a big deal. I just go in there and do my job and beat the crap out of whoever is in the cage with me.” As for after the fight Urijahpointed out: “I am sure we will shake hands and move on. Beating the crap out of each other is really good therapy.” He laughs.
Dominick goes on, “The way I feel about it is once you fight somebody it is what it is. You kind of get in the moment when you’re in a fight, you find out a lot about each other, when you get in a fight. So we will see how the fight goes. I feel like it is one of those things you take in stride. At the end of the fight we will see how each other looks, we will see if we can walk, we will see if we can talk.” He laughs as well, “I am just going to take it in stride.”
Urijah breaks in to comment, “For the record, the last time we fought we didn’t become friends afterwards.” Both fighters laugh. And Dominick responds, “Yeah, It is what it is.” As they both continue to laugh.
30 year old Chris “The Crippler” Leben has a sherdog fight record: 25 – 7 – 0.
34 year old Wanderlei”The Axe Murderer” Silva has a sherdog fight record: 33 – 10 – 1 ( 1 No Contest ).
“This fight is really important to me. I have been a year out. I’ve had a hard year for me. I want to fight with Chris because a lot of my other opponents want to run. Some guys stand in front of me for a couple of minutes then they start to run. I am thinking my next opponent please doesn’t run. But Leben is coming to fight. I think the fans are going to have a great show on July 2nd.”
Leben is coming off a loss to Brian Stann and even though it could be he does not consider it to be a hindrance. “A loss is never good. I had to go to counseling because of that dam loss. There is nothing more motivating than a loss. It makes me want to correct those things and let people know hey I am better than what they saw. There is nothing like a win over Wanderlei that would be huge.”
“I will be honest. I am excited to fight Wanderlei and I am a little scared at the same time. For me that is a very motivating and driving emotion.” Chris is the one that asked to fight Silva, “And when Joe called meand s aid hey man you got it. I said, Oh Okay well I guess I better start training.”
Silva wanted to fight Leben as well, “I told my boss I want to fight this guy Chris Leben and my boss says to me why? I said because he is a very tuff guy and he fights like me. We can commit maybe to have the best fight of the night or of the year.”
“I am so excited to fight Wanderlei Silva. He’s an animal. He is one of my heroes believe it or not. I don’t really want to tell him this, but he is one of the reasons why I started, when I very very first started fighting I used to go get bootleg Pride videos and watch them and try to immolate some of the stuff that he did. You know you have to beat the legend to be a legend. For me to be able to fight one of my heroes, man, I am so stoked.
A little fear is good. You know I might be a little worried but you know what -I am going to get in there and I am going to do what I do because as men that is what we do. We look our issues and our fears in the eye and then we conquer them.”
As for how long Chris plans to continue to fight, “Well I ain’t planning on retiring soon I can tell you that. I fight for differentreasons. When I started fighting it was for myself but right now it’s to where I have my own gym and it’s more to inspire my kids at my gym. To say, hey, look if I can do it and I train with you, then you guys can do it too. As long as my body is going to let me I don’t see why I wouldn’t. Because I see how much motivation it gives to the people around me. I will be honest with you. I don’t like fighting. I love the training but the day of the fight anybody that says they really love it is probably lying to you. But there are so many benefits of what goes along with what we do right now.”
Bellator Founder/CEO Bjorn Rebney; local Bellator 46 fighters Jessica “JAG Aguilar; Tony Johnson; and David Baggett. Plus, special in-studio performance by Level Martinez

The Ultimate Fighting Championshipreturns to Philadelphia this summer with a loaded card sure to leave the City of Brotherly Love buzzing. On Saturday, Aug. 6 from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, former UFC light heavyweight champion “Suga” Rashad Evans takes on rising star and former Penn State wrestling standout Phil Davis.
In addition, UFC fans in Philly will be treated to an exciting light heavyweight battle between former middleweight champion Rich Franklin and former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, as well as a 185-pound clash pitting former UFC world champion Vitor Belfort against Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama.
“The last time we were in Philly, the fans were incredible so we are excited to head back there with a card that features three former world champions,” UFC President Dana White said. “Phil is undefeated at 9-0 and has never been more motivated for a fight, and he wants to prove that he belongs atop the light heavyweight division. Rashad is on fire. He wants his title back so badly he can taste it, but he knows before he can get his title shot he has to get through Phil. He wants to win and he wants to win impressively. This is a great fight.”
“Suga” Rashad Evans (fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) has defeated some of the sport’s most recognizable names, including Quinton Jackson,Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar. Along the way, Evans (20-1-1) has captured UFC gold and the coveted title of season two winner of The Ultimate Fighter. On Aug. 6, the 31-year-old hopes a win will put him in line for a shot at champion Jon Jones.
“My road back to the title continues in Philadelphia against Phil Davis and I expect this to be one of the best fights of the year,” Evans said. “Phil is on the rise in this sport and it’s my job to put an end to that. He’s a former national champion wrestler and he’s been impressive thus far in the UFC, but my experience in big fights gives me the edge. I want another shot at the belt and I’ve got to beat Phil to earn it.”
Undefeated rising star Phil Davis (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) returns to his native Pennsylvania with plans to score the biggest win of his career. A Division I National wrestling champion in 2008, the former Nittany Lion Davis (9-0) has torn through the UFC’s light heavyweight division. With wins over the likes of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Brian Stann, “Mr. Wonderful” believes he’ll cement his place among the 205-pound best with a huge victory over Evans at Wells Fargo Center.
“I’m definitely glad to be back in Pennsylvania for the biggest fight of my life,” Davis, a Harrisburg native, said. “It’s going to be good to be able to fight in front of all my family and friends. I feel like I can take this fight wherever I want. I can wrestle with Rashad, I can strike with him, and I feel confident wherever this fight goes. Rashad Evans is the most dangerous opponent I’ve ever faced, but I don’t think for a minute that I’m
outmatched. I’m going to take care of this fight and do whatever I have to do to beat Rashad.”
Former middleweight champion Rich “Ace”Franklin (fighting out of Cincinnati, Ohio) brings his versatile game and supreme conditioning back to the Octagonfor a highly-anticipated clash with former PRIDE® star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira(fighting out Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil) in light heavyweight action. The 36-year-old Franklin(28-6, 1 NC) holds key victories over Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva and Matt Hamill and will be put to the test against the 34-year-old Nogueira (19-5), a crisp boxer and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who has posted wins over Vladimir Matyushenko, Alistair Overeem and Dan Henderson.
Proven knockout artist and former UFC champion Vitor “The Phenom”Belfort (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.)has long been touted as one of the most devastating and explosive strikers in history. Owner of wins over the likes of Rich Franklin, Randy Couture and Gilbert Yvel, the 34-year-old Brazilian Belfort (19-9) now gears up for a bout with Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama (fighting out of Osaka, Japan). Three straight “Fight of the Night” awards dot the record of the 35-year-old Akiyama (13-3, 2 NC) and he expects to earn a fourth when he meets Belfort in Philadelphia. The talented judoka, who trains alongside number one middleweight contender Yushin Okami, has defeated notables such as Alan Belcher and Melvin Manhoef.

Both Junior Dos Santos and Shane Carwin have a Sherdog fight record of 12-1-0. The last and only time Junior lost was back in 2006. Shane’s last and only loss was actually his last fight, which was to Brock Lesnar. It took place 7/3/2010 UFC 116 – Lesnar vs. Carwin. Coincidentally Carwin is replacing Lesnar in this bout against Dos Santos after Brock suffered another bout with diverticulitis sending the former UFC heavyweight champion into surgery this month.
Lesnar and Dos Santos are the current coaches for this season of THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER Team Lesnar vs. Dos Santos airing on Spike TV. Fans can watch THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER Team Lesnar vs. Dos Santos finale show June 4 on SpikeTV. The finale show features the exciting Lightweight main event matchup of Guida vs Pettis. MMA2Day Show recently interviewed Anthony “Showtime” Pettis the article can be read @ http://pennyjomma.net/2011/05/23/exclusive-pre-fight-interview-with-anthony-%E2%80%9Cshowtime%E2%80%9D-pettis/ .
Concerning Shane’s loss to Brock, Shane states, “Every time you are in a fight you always try to come out of it as a better fighter.” Not sounding too heartbroken he went on to say, “It’s something I love to do. I love to compete. I am living the dream. I couldn’t ask for something better to do.”
Junior and Shane took part in a UFC Media conference call May 31 where the fighters gave Penny Buffington executive producer of MMA2DAY Show and other members of the media some insight as to their thoughts on their upcoming fight.
Carwin says, “Junior is a big threat on his feet. But my past several fights have been with top 5 or 10 in the World so Junior is no exception.” According to May’s World MMA Title rankings Junior is ranked #4 with Carwin coming in at #7. The complete list of MMA World Rankings can be found @ http://pennyjomma.net/2011/05/15/mma-world-rankings/ .
36 year old Shane Carwin feels every UFC fight is a tough fight. “You’re fighting the top contenders in the World so you are just expecting every fight is going to be a war.”
26 year old Junior “Cigano” dos Santos looks beyond telling us of his plans to fight for the heavyweight title currently being held by Cain Velasquez. “Shane Carwin is a very dangerous fighter and I have to respect and I do respect. But I believe so much in me. I will do a 100% for me to keep in line for the title. My last fight was almost 10 months ago so that’s too much time without fighting. So I am very excited to fight him.”
He continued on to say, “I think I am a fast fighter. I have speed in my hands and my movements. I think I am a strong guy and I have enough skills to make it a hard fight for him.”
With both fighters having the exact same fight record it is bound to be an exciting fight. Also on the fight card some main event attractions: DONALD ‘COWBOY’ CERRONE vs. MAC DANZIG, DEMIAN MAIA vs. MARK MUNOZ, & KENNY FLORIAN vs. DIEGO NUNES.
