STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global, in advance of the upcoming STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL PRESENT: FEDOR vs. HENDERSON card scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill held a media call with main event heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson, as well as women’s bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen and number one women’s bantamweight contender Miesha Tate. The conference call took place Thursday, July 21.

With the UFC’s purchase of Strikeforce the females must be feeling added pressure to impress UFC president Dana White. In an interview with the MMA2DAY Show right before the announced purchase Miesha Tate stated Dana White was ignorant. She was not using the word in a derogatory way but rather in its true form. She explained as far as her knowledge White does not watch female fights at all. Indicating he had only watched one, ever.

During the conference call Penny Buffington executive producer of MMA2DAY Show asked Miesha to explain? “In saying that Dana is ignorant, I don’t mean it as an insult; I mean it as he is not informed. He doesn’t really know enough about women’s mma to really make a judgment call about us at this point. I feel with the purchase of Strikeforce he is going to being paying more closer attention to it. So with that in the back of my mind it is not really added pressure. To me it is actual motivation. It is exciting. Now I am going to have that opportunity to say, hey you know what? This is what mma is all about. I hope Marloes and I go out there and give a very exciting performance.”

40 year old Dan “Hendo” Henderson has a sherdog fight record: 27 8 – 0.  34 year old Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko: 31 3 – 0.
24 year old Miesha “Takedown” Tate has a sherdog fight record: 11 2 – 0.  30 year old Marloes “Rumina” Coenen:  19 4 0

In hopes that Fedors previous retirement announcement was nothing more than a NOT well thought out plan. Buffington pushed the fighter to please now admit to plans of fighting for years to come. “It’s Gods will if I will keep fighting for years to come. Right now I feel great. My health is great.”

Watch FEDOR VS HENDERSON JULY 30 at the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, IL. LIVE on SHOWTIME 10PM ET/PT. More info may be found at

UFCs Nate Marquardt Doesnt Pass Medicals and is Fired by Dana White

Nate Marquardt: I Am Heartbroken, But I Will Be Back

Written by Tom Ngo  June 26th, 201

For the first time since his abrupt exit from the UFC, former middleweight top contender Nate Marquardt has addressed the public regarding his recent firing. Because Twitter only allows 140 characters per post, “Nate the Great” was rather selective (generic and vague) in what he revealed.

“I’m sorry to all my fans and the UFC for not passing the medicals for tonight’s fight. I’m heart broken I couldn’t fight, but I will b back,” Marquardt tweeted just moments ago.

Unfortunately, no follow up messages were issued.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission is scheduled to host a press conference  at 4PM ET/1PM PT to discuss Marquardt’s situation.

Just minutes before Marquardt was scheduled to weigh-in for his welterweight debut, the former 185-pounder was forced to withdraw from tonight’s main event fight with Rick Story. In true keyboard warrior fashion, the rumor mill has been running rampant with possible answers as to why the commission pulled the 32-year-old at the 11th hour.

UFC president DanaWhite immediately sent Marquardt to the unemployment line following the PSAC’s decision.

For those that believe the excessive weight cut was the driving force behind his unexpected exit from “UFC on Versus 4,” her is the last video  interview Marquardt granted just hours before tipping the scales. In the NBC Sports clip, it appears as though he has his weight under control:

Important Message from Jon Bones Jones

Hi everyone,

Thanks to everyone who came out or watched me win the light heavyweight championship at UFC 128 in Newark! It was truly an honor and NY MMA fans are always incredible.

But as great as New Jersey was to visit, I wish I could compete in front of my friends and family in my home state of New York! Fighting in MSG would be a dream – it would be a feeling of making it. Thats why I need your help.

The New York State Senate has already passed the bill sanctioning MMA and the NYS Assembly passed it through the Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development Committee, so were halfway there. Ive been to Albany myself to talk to legislators, but I know thats not enough. Elected officials need to know that their constituents want this bill passed. Thats where you come in.

Please call your Assemblyman or Assemblywoman by clicking here, and ask your friends to do the same.

If we can help push the bill through the Assembly, well finally be able to watch fights in Madison Square Garden, my hometown of Rochester, and across this great state!

With only five days left before session ends, your calls are more important than ever. It only take a minute, we can do this!

From Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Live on Pay-Per-View at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT

Presented by
Boost Mobile

FRIDAY, JUNE 10 – 12 p.m. ET

The Ultimate Fighting Championshipreturns to Philadelphia this summer with a loaded card sure to leave the City of Brotherly Love buzzing. On Saturday, Aug. 6 from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, former UFC light heavyweight champion “Suga” Rashad Evans takes on rising star and former Penn State wrestling standout Phil Davis.

In addition, UFC fans in Philly will be treated to an exciting light heavyweight battle between former middleweight champion Rich Franklin and former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, as well as a 185-pound clash pitting former UFC world champion Vitor Belfort against Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama.

“The last time we were in Philly, the fans were incredible so we are excited to head back there with a card that features three former world champions,” UFC President Dana White said. “Phil is undefeated at 9-0 and has never been more motivated for a fight, and he wants to prove that he belongs atop the light heavyweight division. Rashad is on fire. He wants his title back so badly he can taste it, but he knows before he can get his title shot he has to get through Phil. He wants to win and he wants to win impressively. This is a great  fight.”

“Suga” Rashad Evans (fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) has defeated some of the sport’s most recognizable names, including Quinton Jackson,Chuck Liddell, Forrest  Griffin and Stephan Bonnar. Along the way, Evans (20-1-1) has captured UFC gold and the coveted title of season two winner of The Ultimate Fighter. On Aug. 6, the 31-year-old hopes a win will put him in line for a shot at champion Jon Jones.

“My road back to the title continues in Philadelphia against Phil Davis and I expect this to be one of the best fights of the year,” Evans said. “Phil is on the rise in this sport and it’s my job to put an end to that. He’s a former national champion wrestler and he’s been impressive thus far in the UFC, but my experience in big fights gives me the edge. I want another shot at the belt and I’ve got to beat Phil to earn it.”

Undefeated rising star Phil Davis (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) returns to his native Pennsylvania with plans to score the biggest win of his career. A Division I National wrestling champion in 2008, the former Nittany Lion Davis (9-0) has torn through the UFC’s light heavyweight division. With wins over the likes of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Brian Stann, “Mr. Wonderful” believes he’ll cement his place among the 205-pound best with a huge victory over Evans at Wells Fargo Center.

“I’m definitely glad to be back in Pennsylvania for the biggest fight of my life,” Davis, a Harrisburg native, said. “It’s going to be good to be able to fight in front of all my family and friends. I feel like I can take this fight wherever I want. I can wrestle with Rashad, I can strike with him, and I feel confident wherever this fight goes. Rashad Evans is the most dangerous opponent I’ve ever faced, but I don’t think for a minute that I’m
outmatched. I’m going to take care of this fight and do whatever I have to do to beat Rashad.”

Former middleweight champion Rich “Ace”Franklin (fighting out of Cincinnati, Ohio) brings his versatile game and supreme conditioning back to the Octagonfor a highly-anticipated clash with former PRIDE® star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (fighting out Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil)
in light heavyweight action. The 36-year-old Franklin(28-6, 1 NC) holds key victories over Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva and Matt Hamill and will be put to the test against the 34-year-old Nogueira (19-5), a crisp boxer and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who has posted wins over Vladimir Matyushenko, Alistair Overeem and Dan Henderson.

Proven knockout artist and former UFC champion Vitor “The Phenom”Belfort (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) has long been touted as one of the most devastating and explosive strikers in history. Owner of wins over the likes of Rich Franklin, Randy Couture and Gilbert Yvel, the 34-year-old Brazilian Belfort (19-9) now gears up for a bout with Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama (fighting out of Osaka, Japan). Three straight “Fight of the Night” awards dot the record of the 35-year-old Akiyama (13-3, 2 NC) and he expects to earn a fourth when he meets Belfort in Philadelphia. The talented judoka, who trains alongside number one middleweight contender Yushin Okami, has defeated notables such as Alan Belcher and Melvin Manhoef.

Nick Diaz vs. GSP

Nick Diaz Meets with Dana White Today: Diaz vs GSP in December?

Unread postby BigBlackCat » Thu May 19, 2011 12:28 pm

Many things have been said in the past by Dana White. For example, Nick Diaz will never be back in the UFC.

It is funny because years went by, Diaz improved and he was calling out top talent. Diaz defended his Strikeforce Welterweight title against a man who fought for a No. 1 contender ship in the UFC, Paul Daley.

Paul is a striker and one of the most powerful in the world at welterweight. In the fight, Paul catches Nick with two solid shots and drops Nick twice. As the round closes Nick catches him, Paul drops, Nick capitalizes and scores the TKO victory.

What does this all mean? Well, for one Daley is a good striker and has never truly been out struck in his career. Daley had never been KO/TKOd due to strikes until then, and also he was a current top-10 ranked fighter (going into the fight). After this fight, the Cesar Gracie camp had both defended their belts in dominating fashion and it showed that both Diaz and Gilbert Melendez needed a step up in competition.

At UFC 129, GSP fought Diazs teammate, Jake Shields. Shields had an impressive winning streak coming into this fight and hasnt lost since 2006. In this fight, Jake decided to stand and that led to GSP taking a unanimous decision victory. After this bout, a big question mark arose. Who is there that is left for GSP? Should he move up to middleweight?

This is when the talk of Diaz returning to the UFC started. Many thought it was just a rumor, then the reports that Nick would be boxing Jeff Lacy came out. That would be an interesting move for Diaz to say the least.

Nick later stated that he would not take the boxing match if he were granted a shot against GSP. Well, here we are today, May 19, and here is the latest report.

MMA writer Dave Simon is reporting that GSP is scheduled to return on Dec. 10 in Montreal at the Bell Centre. Most likely against Diaz. If this fight is signed, Diaz will not be fighting Jeff Lacy in a Pro Boxing match.

Last night on Facebook, Gracie stated that Diaz would be meeting with UFC President White today.

There are many things that could come of this, but the matchup with GSP seems to be the most logical.

Customized Program That Complements Existing Event Coverage Now in Place

for Nearly 350 UFC and STRIKEFORCE® Athletes

Las Vegas, Nevada – Zuffa, LLC, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® brand, announced today that nearly 350 UFC® and STRIKEFORCE® independent contractor athletes will now be eligible for customized accident insurance coverage. The coverage will be underwritten by Houston Casualty Insurance Company and complement existing event coverage the company already provides its athletes. Never before has a combat sports promoter provided coverage to nearly 350 athletes, and this unprecedented policy will cover accidental injuries suffered by athletes while training, as well as non-training incidents such as automobile accidents.

To date, Zuffa event-related insurance has always met or exceeded Athletic Commission requirements and has covered all injuries sustained during competition. After exploring the purchase of “training insurance” for its athletes for several years – much of which was met with difficulty in finding an insurance company willing to insure mixed martial artists – Zuffa officials were able to secure a comprehensive plan through A+ rated Houston Casualty.

The new policy adds 24-hour worldwide medical life insurance and dental coverage, as well as emergency medical evacuation. Zuffa will pay 100 percent of the premiums for its athletes and have an employee dedicated to handling and filing all claims.

“Our athletes are some of the very best in the world and we’ve committed significant financial resources to provide them with insurance that complements the gold standard we have set for event-related coverage,” UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said. “We’re pleased to provide coverage that enables our athletes to seek and receive treatment for injuries sustained while preparing for bouts.”

“As this sport continues to grow, we have been working hard to secure additional insurance coverage so that our athletes can perform at the highest levels,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’re proud to give our athletes access to this type of insurance.”
