Promoted by Martial Arts Association of Las Vegas, the eight-bout event also includes five current and former world kickboxing champions, headlined by Alain “The Panther” Ngalani of Hong Kong against Dzevad “BH Machine” Poturak of Sarajevo, Bosnia, in a clash for the International Kickboxing Association super heavyweight championship.

Thanks to everyone who came out or watched me win the light heavyweight championship at UFC 128 in Newark! It was truly an honor and NY MMA fans are always incredible.

But as great as New Jersey was to visit, I wish I could compete in front of my friends and family in my home state of New York! Fighting in MSG would be a dream – it would be a feeling of making it. That’s why I need your help.

The New York State Senate has already passed the bill sanctioning MMA and the NYS Assembly passed it through the Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development Committee, so we’re halfway there. I’ve been to Albany myself to talk to legislators, but I know that’s not enough. Elected officials need to know that their constituents want this bill passed. That’s where you come in.

On Saturday, Aug. 6 from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, former UFC light heavyweight champion “Suga” Rashad Evans takes on rising star and former Penn State wrestling standout Phil Davis.

“Suga” Rashad Evans (fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) has defeated some of the sport’s most recognizable names, including Quinton Jackson,Chuck Liddell, Forrest  Griffin and Stephan Bonnar. Along the way, Evans (20-1-1) has captured UFC gold and the coveted title of season two winner of The Ultimate Fighter. On Aug. 6, the 31-year-old hopes a win will put him in line for a shot at champion Jon Jones.

“My road back to the title continues in Philadelphia against Phil Davis and I expect this to be one of the best fights of the year,” Evans said. “Phil is on the rise in this sport and it’s my job to put an end to that. He’s a former national champion wrestler and he’s been impressive thus far in the UFC, but my experience in big fights gives me the edge. I want another shot at the belt and I’ve got to beat Phil to earn it.”

Undefeated rising star Phil Davis (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) returns to his native Pennsylvania with plans to score the biggest win of his career. A Division I National wrestling champion in 2008, the former Nittany Lion Davis (9-0) has torn through the UFC’s light heavyweight division. Lafayette, California (USA) –UFC® Gym announced today that it will partner with UFC superstar and former two-division champion BJ Penn to establish a signature BJ Penn fitness facility in the fighter’s home state of Hawaii. The facility, which will begin enrolling members in Summer 2011, is set to open for workouts in January 2012, and will be located in the Kamehameha Schools Kaka‘ako neighborhood, at the former Pipeline Café on Pohukaina Street in Honolulu.

for Nearly 350 UFC and STRIKEFORCE^® Athletes

Las Vegas, Nevada – Zuffa, LLC, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship^® brand,announced today that nearly 350 UFC^® and STRIKEFORCE^® independent contractor athletes will now be eligible for customized accident insurance coverage. The coverage will be underwritten by Houston Casualty Insurance Company and complement existing event coverage the company already provides its athletes. Never before has a combat sports promoter provided coverage to nearly 350 athletes, and this unprecedented policy will cover accidental injuries suffered by athletes while training, as well as non-training incidents such as automobile accidents.

To date, Zuffa event-related insurance has always met or exceeded Athletic Commission requirements and has covered all injuries sustained during competition. After exploring the purchase of “training insurance” for its athletes for several years – much of which was met with difficulty in finding an insurance company willing to insure mixed martial artists – Zuffa officials were able to secure a comprehensive plan through A+ rated Houston Casualty.

The new policy adds 24-hour worldwide medical life insurance and dental coverage, as well as emergency medical evacuation. Zuffa will pay 100 percent of the premiums for its athletes and have an employee dedicated to handling and filing all claims.
