SAN JOSE, Calif.– STRIKEFORCE will make its second trip to the Buckeye State this year when it brings the STRIKEFORCE WORLD GRAND PRIX: HEAVYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT semi-finals to U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Saturday, Sept. 10., live on SHOWTIME at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).  The World Heavyweight Grand Prix finalists will be determined when former UFC® heavyweight champion “The Baby Faced Assassin” Josh Barnett takes on Russian sensation Sergei Kharitonov, and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva battles tournament alternate Daniel “DC” Cormier.

The card will also feature STRIKEFORCE middleweight champ Ronald “Jacare” Souza defending his title against top contender Luke Rockhold, as well as a light heavyweight collision between Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal and Roger Gracie. A fifth yet-to-be announced fight will air on the SHOWTIME portion of the event.

The main card action will air live on SHOWTIME at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

“Cincinnati is an incredible sports town and we’re excited to bring the World Grand Prix: Heavyweight Tournament to the great fans here,” said STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker.  “We’re going to see who advances to the tournament finals. Barnett vs. Kharitonov pits two incredible finishers against one another, and ‘Big Foot’ is looking to keep the momentum rolling after his big win over Fedor when he meets unbeaten Daniel Cormier. When you add in the middleweight title fight and the other great bouts, you can see that we’ve pulled out all the stops for our return to Ohio.”

Having defeated seven straight opponents, including a slick submission win over Brett Rogers in the previous round of the Grand Prix, Josh Barnett (30-5) feels he is the only man that has what it takes to win this tournament.  The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, who holds career victories over legends Randy Couture, Dan Severn and Minotauro Nogueira, looks to advance and book a spot in the finals when he takes on Golden Glory product, Sergei Kharitonov (18-4).  Born in Plesetsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, Kharitonov still serves active duty for the Russian Airborne Troops while training full time.  Though he most recently defeated Andrei Arlovski to earn this fight, he also holds notable wins over Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.

Brazilian-born heavyweight Antonio “Big Foot” Silva (16-2) is on a tear through the division thanks to recent wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Arlovski and Mike Kyle.  Silva, who holds black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo and karate, will need everything he’s got when he matches up with American Kickboxing Academy’s top heavyweight prospect, Daniel Cormier(8-0).  The former Oklahoma State University wrestler, who was also a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic wrestling team, steps in as an alternate for the injured Alistair Overeem, and hopes to make the most of this massive opportunity.

Team Black House fighter and current STRIKEFORCE middleweight champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (14-2, 1 NC) is currently riding a four-fight win streak that includes victories over Tim Kennedy and Robbie Lawler.  The Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo black belt looks to successfully defend his belt for the second time when he takes on Santa Cruz’s Luke Rockhold (7-1).  An American Kickboxing Academy standout and Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Rockhold seeks his seventh consecutive victory and the STRIKEFORCE 185-pound crown.

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (7-1) is looking to make his way back up the light heavyweight ladder and reclaim his throne.  The former champ had won seven straight before running into Rafael Cavalcante last August, but he’s now back hungrier than ever to return to the win column.  Having wrestled at Oklahoma State University, Lawal will have to rely on his takedowns and heavy hands when he squares off against second-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Roger Gracie (4-0).  A member of the famed Gracie family, Roger is undefeated and recently scored a victory over former UFC and PRIDE® star Kevin Randleman.

MMA Fight Pit’s debut event on Saturday, August 13th, “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS

MMA FIGHT PIT: “GENESIS”

TO BE BROADCAST LIVE ON PAY PER VIEW

Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA): MMA Fight Pit’s highly-anticipated debut event on Saturday, August 13th, “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS,” will be offered to fight fans via Pay-Per-View, as was announced today by Fight Pit Co-Owner/Founder Torry Crooks. The fight card is stacked with UFC® and WEC® veterans, and is set to take place at “The Pit,” a world-renowned New Mexico sporting venue that has put on fights with top boxers such as Bob Foster and Johnny Tapia. The MMA showdown will be distributed live on Pay-Per-View beginning at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST by MultiVision Media, Inc. The suggested retail price is $29.95.

The “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS” PPV broadcast will feature six electrifying bouts, including a highly-anticipated light heavyweight war between former UFC® competitors Houston “The Assassin” Alexander and “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan. In the co-feature, MMA pioneer and former UFC® Lightweight Champion Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver tangles with Jackson’s MMA star Coty “Ox” Wheeler at featherweight.

Four other exciting bouts will also be featured on the PPV-broadcast, including a lightweight battle between The Ultimate Fighter® (TUF®) season eight alum Junie “Lunatik” Browning and Albuquerque native Lenny Lovato; a middleweight clash between TUF® season 11 competitor Jamie Yager and undefeated Jackson MMA product “Slick” Willie Parks; and a heavyweight collision between 14-year MMA veteran Chris Guillen and knockout machine Tyler “The Beast” East. In addition, an exciting women’s bout between Angelica Diaz and Diana Rael will take place on the PPV portion of the card.

“MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS” will take place Saturday, August 13th at “The Pit” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The undercard starts at 6:30 PM EST, and the main card starts at 9 PM EST. Ticket information is available through www.mmafightpit.com. “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS” will be beamed on PPV via cable and satellite in the United States and Canada. The event will be in High Definition, and it will be broadcasted in both English and Spanish (where available).

MMA Fight Pit is recognized as one of the premiere mixed martial arts (MMA) promoters in the Western United States. “Were excited to be the first MMA promotion to be given the honor of holding our event at ‘The Pit,’” stated Crooks. “Albuquerque is world-famous for MMA, and on August 13th, we’ll see this town and ‘The Pit’ in an uproar. Catching the excitement live and broadcasting it to the world on Pay-Per-View is going to be a monumental event.”

“Thanks to the embracement of our broadcast partners, we are very excited to bring this inaugural MMA event to over 80 million households via cable and satellite,” stated Executive Producer, Brian Ricco. “We plan to blaze the same trail as our predecessors through marketing and our partners’ aggressive placement of this awesome event.”

Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (12-62) made a massive splash on the national MMA scene in his first UFC® bout, as he dispatched Jackson’s MMA fighter Keith Jardine in under at minute for a signature win at UFC® 71. He quickly garnered a reputation for his “kill or be killed” mentality in the cage, and garnered a lot of fans and media attention as a result. After a rough stretch that saw him released from the promotion, Alexander has rebounded, winning his last three bouts, with two coming via TKO. At “MMA FIGHT PIT: Genesis,” he will face a fellow UFC® vet in “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan (11-3). A submission specialist and Roufusport fighter, Al-Hassan has competed in the UFC® twice, and is looking to come back from a recent loss that snapped a five-fight win streak.

Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver (24-15-1) is a bona fide legend in MMA, and is a pioneer amongst the lighter weight classes. His battles with the likes of Joe “Daddy” Stevenson, Din Thomas, John Lewis, Caol Uno, Dennis “Superman” Hallman, and B.J. Penn, who he beat for the UFC® lightweight strap, helped put the lightweight class on the map. With 19 combined appearances in the UFC®, WEC®, and PRIDE, “Lil’ Evil” has secured his place as one of the most popular lightweight fighters of all time. He’s gone through a rough stretch in recent years, but has won two of his last three bouts, and is looking to continue his winning ways against New Mexico favorite Coty “Ox” Wheeler (14-3). Another veteran of WEC®, Wheeler has finished 13 of his 14 victims, and has only been stopped once in his career. After two losses in the WEC®, Wheeler has come back to win two straight bouts. At “Genesis,” he will look to get the biggest win of his career in his tilt with a legend.

Also populating the PPV main card of “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS,” will be several other notable fights, including a bout between a veteran of TUF®, the always controversial Junie “Lunatik” Browning (4-4), and one of the top-ranked fighters in New Mexico, Lenny Lovato (8-1). Browning has developed a reputation as a wild card, and as someone whose actions you can just never predict. His time on The Ultimate Fighter® was marked by zany actions that drew the young fighter a lot of attention. After the show, he split two bouts in the UFC® before being released due to his actions outside of the cage. “Lunatik” will now face a very stiff test in Lovato. The Albuquerque native hasn’t competed in the last year, but has won eight of nine bouts to start his career. Now, Lovato will look to add a very famous notch to his belt at “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS.”

Also part of the televised main card will be a middleweight bout between another notorious TUF® alum in Jamie Yager (3-2) and unbeaten Jackson’s MMA fighter “Slick” Willie Parks (4-0), as well as a heavyweight scrap between noted finisher Tyler “The Beast” East (9-3) and Chris Guillen (13-12), a fighter who has been competing in MMA since 1997, and has faced notables such as Heath Herring, Shane Carwin, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Justin Wren, Brad Imes, Dave Herman, and Ben Rothwell. Rounding out the televised card is the beautiful and dangerous Angelica Diaz (4-0 with four submissions), a respected specialist in Kajukenbo who trains out of the famed Chavez Dojo in the South Valley, who will be facing Colorado Muay Thai specialist Diana Rael (2-1).

The full fight card for MMA FIGHT PIT: “GENESIS” includes:

STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL PRESENT: FEDOR vs. HENDERSON MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL WITH FEDOR, HENDERSON, COENEN AND TATE

Written by Penny Buffington

STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global, in advance of the upcoming STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL PRESENT: FEDOR vs. HENDERSON card scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill held a media call with main event heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson, as well as women’s bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen and number one women’s bantamweight contender Miesha Tate. The conference call took place Thursday, July 21.

With the UFC’s purchase of Strikeforce the females must be feeling added pressure to impress UFC president Dana White. In an interview with the MMA2DAY Show right before the announced purchase Miesha Tate stated Dana White was ignorant. She was not using the word in a derogatory way but rather in its true form. She explained as far as her knowledge White does not watch female fights at all. Indicating he had only watched one, ever.

During the conference call Penny Buffington executive producer of MMA2DAY Show asked Miesha to explain? “In saying that Dana is ignorant, I don’t mean it as an insult; I mean it as he is not informed. He doesn’t really know enough about women’s mma to really make a judgment call about us at this point. I feel with the purchase of Strikeforce he is going to being paying more closer attention to it. So with that in the back of my mind it is not really added pressure. To me it is actual motivation. It is exciting. Now I am going to have that opportunity to say, hey you know what? This is what mma is all about. I hope Marloes and I go out there and give a very exciting performance.”

40 year old Dan “Hendo” Henderson has a sherdog fight record: 27 8 – 0.  34 year old Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko: 31 3 – 0.
24 year old Miesha “Takedown” Tate has a sherdog fight record: 11 2 – 0.  30 year old Marloes “Rumina” Coenen:  19 4 0

In hopes that Fedors previous retirement announcement was nothing more than a NOT well thought out plan. Buffington pushed the fighter to please now admit to plans of fighting for years to come. “It’s Gods will if I will keep fighting for years to come. Right now I feel great. My health is great.”

Watch FEDOR VS HENDERSON JULY 30 at the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, IL. LIVE on SHOWTIME 10PM ET/PT. More info may be found at http://www.strikeforce.com/.

FIGHT CARD:

AGGRESSION MMA BRINGING BACK TOP CANADIAN STARS FOR NEXT FIGHT CARD

AGGRESSION MMA BRINGING BACK TOP CANADIAN STARS FOR NEXT FIGHT CARD

Event to feature Ryan Ford, Tim Hague, and Ryan McGillivray

Ryan Ford,

Ryan Ford,

Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Mixed martial arts is all about overcoming obstacles. Whether it’s training, weight-cutting, and defeats, or scheduling conflicts, equipment issues, and venue changes, adversity is very much part of the life of anyone involved in MMA.

Aggression MMA is not exempt from this. At its last event, some cage issues caused some problems at the event. However, the house was near-capacity, and the crowd was hot. Several great performances were given, including a bout many called “Fight of the Night” between Steve Beaumont and James Haddad. Jason Gorny and Elmer Waterhen engaged in an eye-pleasing slugfest, and former Edmonton Eskimo Rio Wells got the submission victory after suffering his first career loss recently. In short, the fights just kept getting better and better.

Building on this momentum, the Edmonton-based promotion has announced that it is bringing back some of the top Canadian stars out there for its September fight event. Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford, Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague, and Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray have all been signed to compete on this star-studded fight card. Canadian fight fans won’t want to miss it!

Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (16-3) has clearly established himself as one of the top stars in Canada. He has won four straight, and eight of his last night, finishing all his victims on either punches or submissions. Just this year, he’s conquered Johnny Davis, former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan, and fellow top Canadian Nick Hinchliffe in succession. Now, he will headline another Aggression MMA event, but this time, it will be with the vacant Aggression Welterweight Championship on the line.

Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague (12-5), at only 28 years old, is a five-time UFC veteran who has proven his talent and mettle over and over again. A brutally strong competitor, he has finished his opponent in ten of his twelve victories. After three separate stints with the UFC, he returns to his native Canada to get back on the winning track. And he’s hungry to prove he belongs amongst the best heavyweights in the sport.

Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray (11-5-1) returns to his native Canada coming off a run on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Lesnar vs. Team dos Santos. As a member of Team dos Santos, McGillivray defeated Len Bentley in his first bout of the competition, thereby earning a spot in the quarterfinals. He lost his next bout against the eventual winner of the competition, Tony Ferguson, a loss which took “The Kid” out of the competition. Yet, he showed enough to be signed by the UFC, and competed at the TUF finals against fellow cast-member Shamar Bailey. He suffered a decision loss, and is now looking to right the ship. One of the most exciting competitors to come out of Canada, the future is bright for “The Kid.”

Stay tuned for more details on this exciting upcoming Aggression MMA fight event!
