Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Aaron Riley and striking coach Firas Zahabi are now members of Alchemist MMA. At just thirty years of age, Riley is a seasoned veteran, having started his career in the sport at the tender age of sixteen in 1997. Zahabi is also a seasoned veteran, having boxed from the age of fifteen. Now 31 years old, he has reshaped striking in MMA with such high profile clients as Georges St Pierre and Kenny Florian.

“Alchemist strives to work with only the best in the business,” says Alchemist President Lex McMahon. We are very excited to ass two more highly talented clients to our roster. Aaron Riley is a seasoned veteran who consistently puts on amazing fights and Firas Zahabi is a brilliant strategist and coach.”

Aaron Riley once won “fight of the year” honors in 2003 when his slugfest with Robbie Lawler captivated fans at UFC 37. But don’t discount him as a relic of the sport. Riley was only 22 years old in that fight and still has a lot of mileage left in the tank. He won five of his last seven fights and most recently earned “Fight of the Night” honors against Jorge Gurgel at UFC 91 in 2008.

Riley is also part of a small club of fighters with over thirty wins in his career, which puts him in the company of Matt Hughes, Nate Marquardt, Fedor Emelianenko, and Anderson Silva.

“I’ve been away from the sport for a little bit nursing a back injury, but I’m ready to get back in the cage and make a run for the lightweight title,” he says. “I still have a lot of good years left in me, so I’m excited to get hooked up with such a great company like Alchemist and get my name out there more.”

Up in Montreal, another young veteran of the sport has also cast his lot with Alchemist. Firas Zahabi is a warrior–philosopher who earned a degree from Concordia University in Philosophy and is always looking to use that knowledge to evolve the sport and his fighters. It was Zahabi who morphed Kenny Florian’s striking from a Muay Thai style to that of a counterpunching boxer’s with a lower stance. The change immediately resulted in success as Florian knocked down Clay Guida and frustrated Takanori Gomi with crisp punches before submitting each one.

MMA is such a quickly evolving sport that I feel privileged to be working with some of the best coaches and athletes in the industry,” Zahabi says. “Now I get a chance to be a part of MMA’s fastest growing brand in Alchemist MMA.

Not content with just being one of the best coaches in the sport, Zahabi recently earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and was a Canadian Champion in Muay Thai as well as a two-time Provincial Freestyle Wrestling Champion. Like his clients, he is never satisfied and always seeks perfection.

“Alchemist has made working with the best coaches in the industry a key strategic initiative,” adds McMahon. “The sport is evolving at such a rapid rate that economic and media opportunities for coaches are presenting themselves with greater frequency and appropriate representation is now requisite. Additionally, these relationships afford the fighters signed to Alchemist access to the best minds in the sport. Alchemist is proud to add Firas to our roster of coaches, which includes Trevor Wittman, Jon Chaimberg, and Antoni Hardonk.

Its Official GSP vs. Nick Diaz- UFC 137

Nick Diaz vacates Strikeforce title to face GSP at UFC 137

According to UFC President Dana White, Nick Diaz is now a UFC fighter and has vacated his Strikeforce welterweight belt to get a shot at UFC champion Georges St-Pierre.

“He will give up the title, he will give up his Strikeforce title,” White said. “He will come in and fight Georges St-Pierre, two guys will fight for the vacant belt in Strikeforce and we’ll go from there.”

White stated that Diaz could go back to Strikeforce at some point in the future if he chose, but for now he is strictly a UFC fighter.

Luttrell, author of the#1 New York Times Best-Seller, Lone Survivor, was inspired tobuild the center after his own recovery post-combat at his ranch in Texas. Luttrell envisioned a facility as a unique place of healing for soldiersrecovering from physical wounds and emotional trauma suffered during combat.

The ranch, while still a medical facility, would offer a non-clinical environment designed to offer soldiers andtheir families an integrated, holistic approach to recovery.  Located on over 1,000 acres, the ranch will house up to 15 families a week.  The foundation intends to build three other facilities throughout the U.S. in the future.

“The UFC is pleased to partner with the Boot Campaign and the Lone Survivor Foundation as we continue to find ways to support the men and women of our armed forces,” Lorenzo Fertitta, Chairman and CEO of UFC, said.“Marcus Luttrell is an inspirational hero and we are more than willing to assist him as he creates facilities that will aid in the recovery of our returning servicemen and women.”

“It brings me great pride to unite two of my passions the UFC and supporting our wounded warriors,” Luttrell said. “The UFC is making it possible to achieve our goal of bringing awareness to the service and sacrifice of our military. I hope all UFC fans will be inspired to join the fight and help our troops when they come home.”

Nick Diaz vs. GSP

Nick Diaz Meets with Dana White Today: Diaz vs GSP in December?

Unread postby BigBlackCat » Thu May 19, 2011 12:28 pm

Many things have been said in the past by Dana White. For example, Nick Diaz will never be back in the UFC.

It is funny because years went by, Diaz improved and he was calling out top talent. Diaz defended his Strikeforce Welterweight title against a man who fought for a No. 1 contender ship in the UFC, Paul Daley.

Paul is a striker and one of the most powerful in the world at welterweight. In the fight, Paul catches Nick with two solid shots and drops Nick twice. As the round closes Nick catches him, Paul drops, Nick capitalizes and scores the TKO victory.

What does this all mean? Well, for one Daley is a good striker and has never truly been out struck in his career. Daley had never been KO/TKOd due to strikes until then, and also he was a current top-10 ranked fighter (going into the fight). After this fight, the Cesar Gracie camp had both defended their belts in dominating fashion and it showed that both Diaz and Gilbert Melendez needed a step up in competition.

At UFC 129, GSP fought Diazs teammate, Jake Shields. Shields had an impressive winning streak coming into this fight and hasnt lost since 2006. In this fight, Jake decided to stand and that led to GSP taking a unanimous decision victory. After this bout, a big question mark arose. Who is there that is left for GSP? Should he move up to middleweight?

This is when the talk of Diaz returning to the UFC started. Many thought it was just a rumor, then the reports that Nick would be boxing Jeff Lacy came out. That would be an interesting move for Diaz to say the least.

Nick later stated that he would not take the boxing match if he were granted a shot against GSP. Well, here we are today, May 19, and here is the latest report.

MMA writer Dave Simon is reporting that GSP is scheduled to return on Dec. 10 in Montreal at the Bell Centre. Most likely against Diaz. If this fight is signed, Diaz will not be fighting Jeff Lacy in a Pro Boxing match.

Last night on Facebook, Gracie stated that Diaz would be meeting with UFC President White today.

There are many things that could come of this, but the matchup with GSP seems to be the most logical.

Predictions for UFC 129: ST-PIERRE vs. SHIELDS

Live on Pay-Per-View at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – How will the main event of the largest UFC® card in history play out? That is the question many fans across the world are pondering at this very moment. In anticipation of the historic welterweight title bout between champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Jake Shields on Saturday, April 30 from Rogers Centre in Toronto, some of the world’s most recognizable figures gathered to offer their opinions on the outcome of the UFC 129 championship clash.

Below are some of the thoughts and predictions for the main event of UFC® 129: ST-PIERRE vs. SHIELDS:

SHANE VICTORINO, Gold Glove Centerfielder from the Philadelphia Phillies

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“I’m gonna have to say ‘Rush’ is the favorite, but I won’t put it past Shields for an upset victory. Shields by submission!”

ARIEL HELWANI, MMA reporter, and

“Shields is as tough as they come, but I just cant see him taking this fight to the ground, which is where he needs it to be. Even if he does score the odd takedown, he wont be able to dominate GSP on the mat like he has against his previous opponents. GSP wins all five rounds due to superior striking and his solid takedown defense en route to a unanimous decision victory.”

DAVID HAYE, WBA Heavyweight boxing champion

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“Shields is the underdog, but believe me, this is the year of the underdog. Just like when I KO Wladimir Klitschko in July, an underdog could send a stadium full of fans home very unhappy at UFC 129.”

MARK LA MONICA, Newsday (New York)

“Picking GSP to win a fight is like picking all the favorites in March Madness. You may get sneered at for picking the obvious, but you usually finish in the money in your office pool.”

KEVIN IOLE, Yahoo! Sports

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“I think Shields will take this. The fight will go to the ground at some point, and I think Shields has an advantage there. Jake is a different sort of fighter, a different sort of grappler, to the ones Georges has been beating. I think Georges is going to try to do what he did to Josh Koscheck and use his jab and strike from a long range, but I think at some point it will go to the ground and Shields will win.”

TABOO, Black Eyed Peas

“GSP and Shields are both on top of their games, but I would have to give the edge to GSP. He’s got the Canadian home field advantage and I feel like it’s GSP’s time right now, but I gotta feeling that night’s gonna be a good night for the UFC.”

GARETH A. DAVIES, Daily Telegraph and ESPN

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“All champions have to lose at some point and I think Shields has a style that makes him a serious threat to GSP. Shields was immense against Henderson but I’m hearing St-Pierre has been magnificent in training, which makes me hesitate to pick against him. I think this really could go either way; it is certainly the most intriguing GSP fight in years. I may change my mind once I see them at the weight-in but, right now, I am feeling the upset.”

J.S. GIGUERE, Goaltender, Toronto Maple Leafs, Stanley Cup winner

“I have to go with GSP, hes just too well rounded. Plus I have to go with the Quebec guy.”

NEIL DAVIDSON, The Canadian Press

“The champion is a savvy fighter with a lot of weapons. Some say he plays it safe, but he wins fights and dominates opponents. Shields is tough and durable but he does not have GSPs arsenal. One mistake could cost the champion, but otherwise look for a comprehensive GSP victory by decision.”

“Jake Shields advantage is his top game in grappling, but to use it, hell need to keep GSP on his back. He wont. St-Pierre wins by third-round TKO.”

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“Jake Shields is a bad man. He’s a tough guy, he’s awkward to deal with and he uses stuff that is so different to other guys that he catches opponents off guard. He’s got awkward takedowns that are hard to defend. So it’s going to be an interesting fight for St-Pierre. But I do think that Jake will need to get it to the ground to win. I’m picking Jake to submit him.”

CHEF MICHAEL SYMON, Food Network’s Iron Chef America and host of Food Feuds

“I’m saying St-Pierre. He is technically just too good.”

MATT HUGHES, UFC Hall of Famer and former two-time UFC welterweight champion

“GSP will win fairly easy. I think this fight will go much the same way the GSP-Koscheck fight went. GSP is the better wrestler, the better striker, and he will be able to control and dominate wherever the fight goes. I really just don’t see any way that Shields is going to be able to win this fight.”

NOEL CLARKE, BAFTA-winning film director and actor
Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS
“Im gonna go out on a limb and pick Shields. GSP has all the tools to beat him, but for me, he is at a psychological disadvantage. He hasnt finished anyone in a while and he showed that frustration after the Koscheck fight. If Shields can take the early onslaught, GSP will get more desperate to finish, make a mistake and Shields will get him.”

CLARKE MACARTHUR, Left Wing, Toronto Maple Leafs

“I think GSP will win by first round submission. Hes way too well rounded a fighter. Shields is tough and dangerous on the ground, but I think GSP is on another level.”

Prediction: JAKE SHIELDS

“Its very difficult to pick against a fighter who will go down as one of the greatest this sport has ever seen, but I have to. Simply put, Jake Shields is a winner. When faced with insurmountable odds, he excels. Few gave him a chance in the world against Dan Henderson. He was supposed to be a stepping stone, a guy to give Henderson a nice win in his Strikeforce debut, and Shields spoiled everything. Hes going to do the same thing to St-Pierre, and it wont matter that 55,000 people are rooting against him.”

DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON, star of the hit movie Fast Five

“I think its going to be a five round epic war that redefines both fighters. I respect Shields too damn much to say itll end any other way. GSP, the best fighter on the planet, wins in the 5th.”

SHAQUILLE O’NEAL, NBA superstar, Boston Celtics

BRIAN DAWKINS, NFL Pro Bowl Safety, Denver Broncos

“I believe St-Pierre will be too much. He has all around talent, striking power and he’s a ground technician. He has no true weakness!”

Currently Casting for MMA based Movie- Owned

Im supplying this notice courtesy of my friend James Hergott of  Owned Entertainemt . Please check out his website @

To give some background I originally went into pre production and casting on this project a few years ago but got sidetracked with a number of other opportunities including the MMA Worldwide TV show on HDNET and GSP documentary “The Striking Truth”.  Recently I have been free to start revisiting the “Own3d” project and began working on rewrites.

Original Artists ( agreeing to rep the project domestically.  Original Artists has represented clients behind some of the best selling recent martial arts movies including NEVER BACK DOWN ($25 Million US Box Office), THE KARATE KID ($177 Million US Box Office) and FEARLESS ($25 MILLION US Box Office).  Original Artists agent, Chris Sablan commented on the script; “As an agent at Original Artists, and as a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practitioner and fan of the sport, I have read several MMA scripts across the years. In fact, several have come across my desk and I have passed on them. “Own3d” I believe has the perfect combination of MMA and a great story. ”

Additionally I’ve been working with a Canadian distributor that is assisting with both international sales as well as help with qualifying Canadian tax incentives/grants.

The movie will be filmed in Ontario, Canada.  We qualify for several grants and tax incentives and therefore have to follow certain protocol during the development stage.  Currently we are casting.  For the acting heavy roles we are going through casting agencies in Canada.  Most of the talent, but not all should be from Canada.

Because of the number of MMA related roles I’ve been asked to find some MMA fighters for certain roles.  At this time race is not relevant.  The acting will be union but if you are non-union it does not disqualify you from possibly being part of the project.  I’ve included a couple of character breakdowns below to give you an idea of the types of characters we are casting for.  There are a number of roles for henchmen, bikers, male and female cops, corner men, etc.  Of course we can always do cameos.

Special consideration (but not necessary) will be given to those who meet any of the following criteria:

-Well-known fighters with a fan base

-Canadian, especially if domiciled in Ontario

-Acting experience

-Attractive and/or unique look/personality

Remember we can use citizens from America and other countries; we just have to cast the majority of the project Canadian.

Unfortunately, at this time, we are not looking for crew or other people to help out with production although this will come soon.

The following are potential roles that we might cast with MMA fighters instead of straight actors:

 Sample Character Profiles

(Age 25-35) The protective older brother of Jock.  Timer is a successful MMA fighter.  He has a good heart but is quick to turn to violence if he or his family is threatened.  His presence has an air of confidence.  He knows he can handle himself if trouble goes down and others sense that energy.  He’s always been a bit of a rebel and was in trouble in his teenage and early adult years.  While often bucking authority he lives by his own code of honor.    Because of his past troubles, he seeks to steer Jock away from the same mistakes.  To some degree this is a selfless act but there is also a component of this that is Timer trying to redeem his own sins by keeping his brother safe.  He has that “hero” look about him and is good-looking and well built.

(Age 25-35) Timer’s long time friend, yet nemesis.  He is also well-built and used to wrestle with Timer.  Whereas Timer pursued an athletic career, Jacob was injured in a wrestling match.  He began work as a bouncer and got addicted to prescription drugs.  This led him into a world of dealing drugs to support his habits.  He is street smart and still has that competitive drive.  Since not being able to compete as an athlete his drive went into becoming rich through drug dealing.  Sociopathic, Jacob has always been jealous of Timer and this has driven him to succeed.  As much as he wants to succeed he also wants Timer to fail.  He uses Jock to get back at Timer.  Jacob has an innate ability to understand human nature, especially people’s motives.  He is able to exploit people’s desires and fears in order to get what he wants.

(Age 30-55) A dirty cop who has become amoral.  After years working vice, Detective Wayne believes everyone is corrupt and therefore he is able to justify his actions to do just about anything.  He has little pity for the weak and believes the only reason people are “good” is out of their own self-righteousness.   He is a whore looking to make money any way he can.  He gets gratification in exerting power over others.  His closest thing to forming a relationship with a woman is busting prostitutes and sleeping with them in exchange for dropping the charges.  Because of the blue code of silence he has many sympathizers on the force who are similar macho types.    He’s not used to having to answer for his actions or to any sort of authority.  He has a man’s man look about him.

A biker who is absolutely without conscience.  He gets off on hurting and terrorizing others.  We can assume he’s lived a cowboy life of drinking, prostitutes, bar fights and traveling from town to town on his bike.  He makes money as an enforcer for drug dealers.  For him, life is a party and he is here for a good time, not a long time.  He’s covered in scars and tattoos and has biker facial hair.

Also casting for the following speaking roles:

MMA COACH

FEMALE COP

TRAINING PARTNER

BIKER #1

SHOTGUN SAM  (Character role would like to cast with MMA cameo)

PIZZA MAN            (Character role would like to cast with MMA cameo for laughs)

STRIPPERS  (Ring girls could apply)

When applying please do the following:

*Email to with Subject Line:  Own3d Casting Submission

*Include any of the following you may have:

-Role(s) you are applying for

-Bio/resume (acting and/or fighting)

-Video/reel  (acting and/or fighting)

-Citizenship and location of current residence (city)

-Contact information

NOTE: It will take some time before selections are made so while it is good to get your information to me early it may take several weeks before we get back to you as there are several considerations to be made.

We do not know filming start date yet.

Thank you!
