Both Junior Dos Santos and Shane Carwin have a Sherdog fight record of 12-1-0. The last and only time Junior lost was back in 2006. Shane’s last and only loss was actually his last fight, which was to Brock Lesnar. It took place 7/3/2010 UFC 116 – Lesnar vs. Carwin. Coincidentally Carwin is replacing Lesnar in this bout against Dos Santos after Brock suffered another bout with diverticulitis sending the former UFC heavyweight champion into surgery this month.
Lesnar and Dos Santos are the current coaches for this season of THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER Team Lesnar vs. Dos Santos airing on Spike TV. Fans can watch THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER Team Lesnar vs. Dos Santos finale show June 4 on SpikeTV. The finale show features the exciting Lightweight main event matchup of Guida vs Pettis. MMA2Day Show recently interviewed Anthony “Showtime” Pettis the article can be read @ http://pennyjomma.net/2011/05/23/exclusive-pre-fight-interview-with-anthony-%E2%80%9Cshowtime%E2%80%9D-pettis/ .
Concerning Shane’s loss to Brock, Shane states, “Every time you are in a fight you always try to come out of it as a better fighter.” Not sounding too heartbroken he went on to say, “It’s something I love to do. I love to compete. I am living the dream. I couldn’t ask for something better to do.”
Junior and Shane took part in a UFC Media conference call May 31 where the fighters gave Penny Buffington executive producer of MMA2DAY Show and other members of the media some insight as to their thoughts on their upcoming fight.
Carwin says, “Junior is a big threat on his feet. But my past several fights have been with top 5 or 10 in the World so Junior is no exception.” According to May’s World MMA Title rankings Junior is ranked #4 with Carwin coming in at #7. The complete list of MMA World Rankings can be found @ http://pennyjomma.net/2011/05/15/mma-world-rankings/ .
36 year old Shane Carwin feels every UFC fight is a tough fight. “You’re fighting the top contenders in the World so you are just expecting every fight is going to be a war.”
26 year old Junior “Cigano” dos Santos looks beyond telling us of his plans to fight for the heavyweight title currently being held by Cain Velasquez. “Shane Carwin is a very dangerous fighter and I have to respect and I do respect. But I believe so much in me. I will do a 100% for me to keep in line for the title. My last fight was almost 10 months ago so that’s too much time without fighting. So I am very excited to fight him.”
He continued on to say, “I think I am a fast fighter. I have speed in my hands and my movements. I think I am a strong guy and I have enough skills to make it a hard fight for him.”
With both fighters having the exact same fight record it is bound to be an exciting fight. Also on the fight card some main event attractions: DONALD ‘COWBOY’ CERRONE vs. MAC DANZIG, DEMIAN MAIA vs. MARK MUNOZ, & KENNY FLORIAN vs. DIEGO NUNES.
